HaRav Dovid Shlomo Ostroff was born in Johannesburg South Africa and made Aliyah to Eretz Yisrael in 1974. From 1982 until 1989 he learned at Yeshivas Kol Torah. Part of his learning was with Moran V’rabanan HaGaon Rav Shlomo Zalman Auerbach zatsal. During this time, a very close relationship was established.

R’ Ostroff then moved to a Kollel in Bayit Vegan and learned NIDDAH under Rav Pinchas Ovadia. He was tested by Rav Moshe Halberstam Shlita and by the Rabbanut.

R’ Ostroff then moved to HaRav Ezriel Auerbach’s Kollel where he learned SHABBOS and was tested by Rav Ya’akov Meir Stern Shlita (a Dayan in Rav Wozner’s Beis Din) and the Rabbanut. His results were commended as “passed with hitstaynut (excellence)”.

R’ Ostroff then learned ISSUR V’HETER and was subsequently tested by Rav Zalman N’chemia Goldberg Shlita and was awarded S’micha by Rav Goldberg.

In 2001, Hagaon Rav Moshe Sternbuch granted R’ Ostroff a Heter Horaa to pasken Niddah sha’alos in Har Nof. His shimush in Niddah was from Hagaon Rav Menachem Mendel Fuchs Shlita – a Dayan in the Eida HaChareidis and a Rav in Ramot Daled, Jerusalem. He received his main shimush from the Dayonim in Rav Wozner’s Bais Horaa in Bnei B’rak.

R’ Ostroff has been learning chavrusa in a night seder with Rav Ezriel Aurbach Shlita since 1994.
